It was the first major shock of the season as Nottingham Forest beat Liverpool at Anfield in Gameweek 4, leaving many FPL managers points tallies in tatters.

For the first time this season, Reds forward Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) blanked, allowing Erling Haaland (£15.2) to pull clear as the highest points earner.

Meanwhile, Arsenal defensive pairing William Saliba (£6m) and Gabriel (£6m) proved their worth with a clean sheet against Tottenham.

A mere blip for Liverpool

Liverpool’s shock 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday hit many FPL managers’ points tallies, with Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7m) and Luis Diaz (£7.7m) owners feeling the brunt of it.

Salah is now the second most owned player in FPL (46.4%), while Alexander-Arnold sits in seventh (31.6%).

But with Bournemouth (H), Wolves (A), Crystal Palace (A) and Chelsea (H) in the next four Gameweeks, the Reds will have plenty of opportunities to prove Forest was just a blip in what was a good start to the season.

Arsenal show their mettle

Arsenal’s 1-0 win at fierce rivals Spurs was the perfect response to their 1-1 draw at home to Brighton in Gameweek 3.

Centre back pairing Gabriel and Saliba are proving invaluable for FPL managers, with the former grabbing the winner at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Alongside a clean sheet, the Brazilian international scored the match winner in a 15-point haul, earning him a place in Gameweek 4’s team of the week.

The Gunners travel to champions Manchester City this weekend but have all the tools to keep free-scoring Haaland at bay.

After their visit to the Etihad Stadium, Mikel Arteta’s side face Leicester (H), Southampton (H) and Bournemouth (A).

The value of the goalkeeper

It was a high scoring gameweek for goalkeepers with Chelsea’s Robert Sanchez (£4.5m) earning 15 points with a clean sheet and penalty save at Bournemouth.

Manchester United’s Andrew Onana (£5m) racked up an impressive 13 points with his penalty save against Southampton.

Ipswich Town’s Arijanet Muric (£4.4m) gained 11 points, Arsenal’s David Raya (£5.5m) and Nottingham Forest’s Matz Sels (£4.5m) both earned nine points, while Man City’s Ederson (£5.5m) earned seven points thanks to his assist.

The Champions League and Pep Roulette returns

With the Champions League and League Cup taking place this week, FPL managers need to take care not to use up their transfers too quickly.

The Pep (Guardiola) Roulette phenomenon, which causes problems for FPL managers every week, sees the Man City manager rotate his players often every week leaving players scratching their heads at which of his players to pick.

However, Haaland is a sure fire starter as Pep himself has said the Norwegian will play if he’s fit.

Pep Roulette may be a more common occurrence now that the games are coming thick and fast.
