Roy Keane believes Lee Carsley now has a ‘headache’ following England’s 2-0 Nations League win over Finland on Tuesday night.

The Three Lions ran out comfortable winners at Wembley, with Harry Kane scoring twice on his 100th appearance for his country.

There were, however, several players who caught the eye.

Rico Lewis performed well at left-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold followed up his fine display against the Republic of Ireland with another strong showing while Angel Gomes has won plaudits for the way he dictated play in the middle of the park.

Speaking on ITV after the game, both Ian Wright and Keane admitted they were impressed by Gomes’ display.

Wright said of the Lille midfielder: “Angel Gomes. Jack [Grealish] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] have been spoken about.

“Seeing Gomes in that midfield, constantly on the move. His touch of the ball…he’s constantly available.”

And Keane has now expressed a belief that Carsley has a ‘headache’ following Gomes’ impressive display.

“There’s great options. There will probably be a bit of a headache for him.”

It took England a while to get going against Finland, with the Three Lions looking vulnerable on the counter-attack during the early stages of the match.

But it was fitting that Kane produced the goods, with the striker showing he’s still got plenty left in the tank.

Questions were asked of the England No 9 after his subdued performances at the European Championships this summer, despite Kane scoring three goals in that competition.

But even after 100 appearances for his country, Kane is eager for more.

As for Gomes, the 24-year-old will now be hoping to be a regular for England for many years to come.

Some felt he made a big mistake to leave Manchester United in 2020, having struggled for regular action under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the time.

Having flourished for Lille, however, he’s now achieving a consistency that was lacking during his 10 appearances at Old Trafford.

Carsley, speaking after the win, heaped praise on Gomes and says the Lille maestro ‘fully deserves’ the plaudits he’s getting.

“He loves football, he watches football, he’s interested in tactics, he knows all the players in any league,” he stated.

“If you ask him for any feedback, you need to be prepared that he’s going to give you some feedback on the session, or how we’re going to build up, or the positions.

“He’ll often say about some build-ups he’s done with other clubs, or what he’s played against, because he’s obviously playing in France, so he sees different things.

“He fully deserves it.”

Gomes could be involved when England face off against Greece on October 10, with the Three Lions then set to battle Finland for a second time three days later.
