Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho appears to have backed Cristiano Ronaldo after the 39-year-old criticised Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo and Ten Hag had a rocky relationship at Old Trafford before the Portugal international was offloaded back in the winter of 2022.

The forward, who is still going strong in Saudi Arabia with Al-Nassr, was cut loose after criticising Ten Hag, the Glazers and other aspects of life at United in a public interview.

In an interview with Rio Ferdinand, Ronaldo then lashed out at Ten Hag – saying the Dutchman was wrong to say his team shouldn’t compete for the biggest and best prizes on offer.

“Manchester United, they need to rebuild everything, in my opinion,” he said.

“The coach, they say they cannot compete to win the Premier League and Champions League.

“Manchester United coach, you cannot say that you’re not going to fight to win the League or Champions League.

“You have to be, to mentally say, ‘listen maybe we don’t have that potential, but I cannot say that. We’re going to try. You have to try.'”

Fabrizio Romano posted some of Ronaldo’s quotes on his Instagram account.

And Garnacho’s like was then spotted by fans before the winger hastily removed it.

Supporters on X seem to be behind the pair rather than Ten Hag, however.

One user said: “Good to see Garnacho has standards.”

A second said: I speak for every Utd fan when I say, Cristiano Ronaldo is absolutely spot on. Ten Hag mentality is too low for Man Utd.”

A third opined: “He knows Ten Hag isn’t the right man to lead the club. Watch Ten Hag drop him against Southampton this week lmao.”

A fourth stated: “He has standards. What Ten Hag said is unacceptable, we are Manchester United not Swansea.”

Another said: “But GARNACHO is right, Leicester won the PL in 2016. Anything can happen, saying this in public reduces the standards to dust level. You just dont say things like this after spending 600m PLUS.”

And a sixth said: “At least Garnacho wants to win unlike his coach.”

Garnacho grew up idolising Ronaldo and loved playing alongside the forward at United.

Ten Hag was kept on by the Red Devils, despite the club sounding out potential replacements, having steered the club to FA Cup glory in May.

Just three Premier League matches into the new season, however, and the 54-year-old is already under pressure.

However, they’ve since slumped to defeats against Brighton and Liverpool – conceding five goals across those two matches in the process.
