The Bristol railway line still running scenic steam train rides through the countryside are running free journeys this weekend for kids who bring their teddy bears along for the ride. Avon Valley Railway will be hosting their beloved Teddy Bears Picnic event this weekend (September 7 and 8), featuring a trip on the railway route of times past, followed by kids activities back at Bitton station.
The three-mile heritage railway line runs from Oldland Common to Avon Riverside. The route is part of the otherwise dismantled Midland Railway Mangotsfield and Bath branch line, which was closed due to the Beeching cuts back in 1966.
Preserved by a group of volunteers, Avon Valley Railway welcomes guests aboard the restored line and railway carriages for a scenic and peaceful train ride. The beautiful restored Victorian Bitton station is home to a small museum area as well as a cafe, where you can dine inside a static 1950s carriage and watch the train go by.
