Northern Ireland is enjoying a day of late summer sunshine – as other parts of the UK are put on alert for heavy rain.

Temperatures could hit 24C in some places today, forecasters said.

The Met Office said the region will enjoy a fine, dry day with plenty of sunshine.

And the good weather could continue for another day at least.

Tomorrow is expected to be mainly dry but cloudier, although some sunshine will break through during the day.

While not as warm as today, temperatures could still reach 19C in some places.

Monday will be mainly dry and cooler with sunny spells.

But heavier rain will cross all parts on Tuesday morning, followed by sunshine, blustery showers and fresh northwest winds.

Similar conditions are expected on Wednesday.

It came as the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain covering almost the whole of southern and central England and south Wales.

The forecaster issued the warning, running from 9pm on Saturday to 6pm on Sunday, with areas of heavy and thundery rain forecast across the region.

It added that some spots could see up to 100mm of rain and there was a chance of flooding and power cuts.
