Two young children have been targeted with repeated racial abuse over a two-month period – directed at them by young people.
Police said the verbal abuse has been taking place in Teutonic Gardens and is also targeted at the mother of the children.
They received a report of anti-social behaviour on Wednesday and have launched an investigation.
Inspector McCrum said: “We have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances behind these incidents, which we are treating as racially motived hate crimes. Officers will be patrolling the area to prevent any more incidents of this nature. This will not be tolerated. We will continue to work closely with our partners, community representatives and elected representatives. Hate crime has no place in our society whatsoever. Be reassured, we will be relentless in our approach to identify those involved.

Earlier this month, the PSNI said figures show the number of reported race hate crimes in the last year have risen by a third when compared to the previous twelve months.
It amounts to more than 400 incidents.
The PSNI has also said that the cost of policing street violence and racially motivated attacks in the last month has been £3.5m on top of normal operations.
Police said they acknowledge fears around reporting race hate crime and helping identify suspects within communities.
The clearance rate for race hate crime is low, at just over 10%.
