Noni Madueke was left to regret his actions after Chelsea could only manage a draw against Crystal Palace on Sunday.

The Blues were the hot favourites to claim all three points at Stamford Bridge following their 6-2 demolition of Wolves at the Molineux last week.

But Enzo Maresca’s men were lucky to take a point after Palace earned themselves a draw against their London rivals and might have won on another day.

All eyes were on Madueke after his brilliant hat-trick last week, which saw him called up to the England squad for the first time.

But the forward, who was being targeted by the away fans throughout the contest, made himself look a bit silly when he shushed the Palace supporters when Nicolas Jackson opened the scoring for Chelsea in the first half.

Madueke had been involved in the goal, seeking out Cole Palmer before the former Manchester City star slipped in Jackson for a tap-in.

But the Eagles regrouped after the break and managed to claim an equaliser through Ebere Eze, who has also been called up to the England squad.

Chelsea could have extended their lead in the first half but former Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson was perfectly positioned to deny the Blues.

One brilliant save came against Madueke, who Enzo Fernandez found with a brilliant lofted ball over the top.

But the English stopper was equal to Madueke’s effort, who could not follow up his three-goal display last week.

Instead, Palace took advantage of Chelsea’s profligacy and ramped up their efforts after the break.

On the counter, they looked dangerous and Robert Sanchez was called into action

Jackson had a late chance to win the contest but his effort went wide from a position he really should have scored from.

Madueke was later taken off for Christopher Nkunku, who has scored twice this season for Chelsea from the penalty spot.

It compounded a miserable day for the 22-year-old, who was jeered by the Palace fans as he came off following his gesture in the first half.

But it was not enough as Maresca’s men failed to capitalise on their victory last week to show their lack of consistency.

Ebere Eze was in fine form as he earned Palace a point at Stamford Bridge

It follows a poor display in the Europa Conference League where Chelsea lost 2-1 to European minnows Servette.

However, having won 2-0 in the first leg, it has still seen them progress to the latter stage of the competition – albeit unconvincingly.

The Premier League is now on a break for international duty with Chelsea facing Bournemouth on the south coast next on September 14.
