What does artificial intelligence know when it comes to hockey hunks?

Apparently a lot.

According to the Attractiveness Test’s AI tool, the Minnesota Wild’s Ryan Hartman of Hilton Head, S.C., is officially the most attractive player in the NHL, said sports betting and casino site Tonybet.

The research looked at the handsomeness of 1,079 NHL players and those with the highest score out of 10 have been named the biggest heartthrobs with four born in Canada.

Hartman, a winger for the Minnesota Wild, had a final attractiveness score of 9.96 out of 10, 33.1% higher than the average across the NHL.

In second place was Northridge, Calif.’s Cole Guttman with a final attractiveness score of 9.95 as the Chicago Blackhawks centre scored 33% higher than the sport’s average.

Coming in third was New Jersey Devils left-winger Samuel Laberge with a final attractiveness score of 9.84, which was 31.5% higher than the benchmark in the NHL for the Chateauguay, Que.-born player.

The Boston Bruins defenceman Parker Wotherspoon, who was born in Surrey, B.C., came in fourth with a final attractiveness score of 9.82, 31.2% higher than the average across the sport.

With a final attractiveness score of 9.8, Devon Toews of the Colorado Avalanche was the fifth-biggest heartthrob in the NHL. That was 31% above the average across all 1,079 players for the Abbotsford, B.C.-born defenceman.

Coming in sixth place was Calgary-born right-winger Dylan Holloway of the St. Louis Blues with a score of 9.6.

“Hockey entertains enthusiastic fans from across the world every season, with the 2024 Stanley Cup final amassing 4.2 million viewers on ESPN,” said a spokesperson for Tonybet in a statement.

“This study has highlighted the most attractive players within the sport. While their physical appearance does not necessarily impact their performance, it may kindle their popularity within the fan base and, in turn, lead to more opportunities and sponsorships outside of the rink.”

Round out the top 10 were the Detroit Red Wings’ Tim Gettinger (9.54), the Pittsburgh Penguins’ Karel Plasek (9.52), the New York Islanders’ Marc Gatcomb (9.48) and the Detroit Red Wings’ William Lagesson (9.45).
