Eamonn Holmes has responded to the bizarre headlines emerging in Britain’s press today regarding his absence from Breakfast.

The People’s Channel viewers are used to waking up with Eamonn and Isabel Webster during the week but on August 19, Nana Akua stepped into his shoes.

And the pair had plenty to get through with GB News viewers, including the latest on winter fuel payments, new developments from the Democratic National Convention in the US, Prince Andrew losing his security team, and much more.

Meanwhile, Eamonn was nowhere to be seen as he enjoyed some well-deserved time off from presenting duties.

But in doing so, headlines began to emerge in the British press questioning Eamonn’s absence.

And Eamonn took issue with one rather sensationalised headline in one of the country’s papers, in particular, that suggested he’d be “replaced” in his role as Breakfast host “with no explanation”.

The publication in question also referred to Eamonn’s on-air clash with Imarn Ayton over the Union Jack and racism in the UK which occurred on-air last week.

But keen to clear up any confusion in regards to his whereabouts, Eamonn took to X, formerly Twitter, to set the record straight.

Mocking the headline in question, Eamonn brilliantly quipped: “It appears The Mail on line is unfamiliar with the concept of Summer Holidays.

“See u next week!” the GB News host signed off to his 1.1million followers. (sic)

Before long, fans rushed to wish Eamonn an enjoyable break, including GB News regular Dawn Neesom.

Beginning her reply with an eye-rolling emoji in response to the article, Dawn said to Eamonn: “Have a lovely time,” followed by a sunglass-wearing emoji.

Eamonn will be back on Breakfast alongside Isabel soon but in the meantime, his co-host will continue to hold the fort.

And Monday’s show managed to run without a hitch in Eamonn’s absence, with one of the biggest talking points stemming from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s trip to Colombia.

Isabel and Nana spoke to Cameron Walker about the trip and how much of the footage and images emerging from it has tended to only come from the Sussexes’ team.

“Usually at this point in a foreign royal tour, I would be giving you the highlights and low-lights and then you guys make up your mind but to be honest, I’m finding it quite difficult to do that,” Cameron explained.

“The reason is there was very limited independent coverage of the trip. There was one pool journalist permitted to cover the royal couple on their visit. And then that information would be shared with all the other journalists, which perhaps is to be expected, but it was very brief.

“There wasn’t much in the way of independence. Also, the videos and the photographs we were getting from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s team were very glossy. Meghan looked amazing, Harry looked amazing as well, all smiles, all lovely.

“But all the footage as you might be able to hear, or not hear I should say, was muted, so you couldn’t hear a lot about what Prince Harry or Meghan were saying. “It was all very edited. Of course, it is their right because they are no longer working members of the Royal Family so they can do a royal tour or not a royal tour, whichever way you want to look at it as they please. If they don’t want to share all the pictures with us, so be it.

“However, the question then is what is their aim? Arguably the biggest news line for the whole four-day tour was Prince Harry appearing to weigh in on the UK riots where he says what happens online within a matter of minutes, transfers to the streets.

“That is referring, of course, to online misinformation, a key theme of their trip, that quote was picked up by another camera. It wasn’t picked up by Harry and Meghan’s camera and it certainly wasn’t included in the pool copy provided by their team.”
