A young man has died in hospital after a crash involving a scrambler in Co Armagh.

The incident in Lurgan involved the Suzuki scrambler and an Audi A3 Sport TDI at a roundabout on Lake Street shortly after 3pm on Thursday.

The man who died was in his 20s and was taken to hospital following the crash but he passed away due to his injuries on Sunday, the PSNI confirmed. He was the passenger on the scrambler.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses.

Inspector Adair, from the Police Service’s Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Police received a report of a collision involving a Suzuki scrambler and Audi A3 Sport TDI at a roundabout in the Lake Street area at around 3.30pm.

“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service who provided initial first aid at the scene.

“The passenger of the scrambler, a man aged in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment to life-threatening injuries. Sadly, he later passed away.

“Meanwhile, the driver of the scrambler also required hospital treatment for serious injuries – whilst the driver of the car sustained minor injuries.

“Our investigation is underway, and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who might have any information which might assist, or any dash-cam or other footage, to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 963 15/08/24.”

Sinn Fein councillor Keith Haughian expressed his condolences following the man’s death.

“It is tragic news to learn that a man has died following a collision on Lake Street on Thursday,” he said.

“My deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of this man, the unimaginable loss of someone this young is so sad and tragic.

“I want to pay tribute to the emergency services for all of their efforts at the scene.

“Police are appealing to anyone who may have information or dash-cam footage to contact them.”

DUP councillor Peter Haire added: “Sorry to hear that the young person involved in the accident has lost his life. Thoughts and prayers to the family concerned.”

The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service said three emergency ambulance crews, two rapid response paramedics, an advanced paramedic and the charity Air Ambulance Northern Ireland were tasked to the crash scene on Thursday.

“One person was taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance and another person was taken to Craigavon Area Hospital by ambulance,” a NIAS spokesperson said.
