A car has flipped over onto its roof following a crash in Co Down with one neighbour saying it’s fortunate that nobody was killed.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening at Ballyeden Meadows, Magheralin, in what is a built-up residential area.

The PSNI has been contacted for comment.

A source from the area said a woman walking her dog was almost hit by the car.

It is alleged car was driving at speed before colliding with a lamppost and then smashing into a garden fence.

It’s understood the housing development was only finished inn 2016 and there have been a number of serious crashes on the short stretch of road.

Nicola Keery, 33, lives close to the house where a garden fence was knocked over.

She said: “I was putting my son to bed and heard a loud noise, and it’s generally a really quiet area so I knew something was going on.

“So I went to the windows at the front of my house and saw the car upside down, beside the smashed lamppost, and two lads were getting out of the car.

“It had crashed onto the footpath and I couldn’t believe it. Honestly it’s amazing nobody has been killed here.

“That wee section of the footpath is always so busy with kids playing, people out walking babies in prams, out walking their dogs.

“Our neighbours are also usually out with their baby daughter and the car smashed into their garden fence, it’s crazy.”
