GB News host Michael Portillo shared his blunt assessment of the Tories with Mel Stride and said “he won’t be Prime Minister”.

Portillo said: “If you win the position of opposition leader, you won’t be Prime Minister.”

He responded: “I simply don’t accept that. If you were interviewing me after the 2019 General Election, and heaven forbid I was a socialist, you would be saying this is the worst result since the 1930s. There is no conceivable way you are going to be in Government in 2024.

“And yet look what happened. There are no rules left in politics. And look at Labour’s position. They’ve won on the smallest proportion of the popular vote in our history under 34 per cent.”
