An SDLP MLA has paid tribute after the death of his “beautiful, kind, gentle” mum.

Caroline Wray, the mother of Daniel McCrossan, passed away on Friday.

Her son is an MLA for West Tyrone.

In a moving tribute, Mr McCrossan said she was the “most amazing, beautiful and wonderful woman” with the “biggest, softest heart”.

He posted on Facebook: “I know in my heart she is at peace, but it does little to ease the awful pain I am feeling.

“I can’t put into words how much I loved her or how I will navigate life without her by my side, calling me about absolutely everything and anything or the wee messages first thing in the morning and at night.

“We were so very close, as close as any mother and son could ever be and we had some amazing and happy adventures together.”

A funeral notice said Requiem Mass for Ms Wray, from Glenview Manor, Strabane, will take place in the Church of the Immaculate Conception in the town on Monday morning.

Mr McCrossan said he was with his mum “every single morning of every day”.

“She loved each of us, she showed us every single day and was a really wonderful, loving mummy who was always there for us and gave everything for us right to the day she closed her eyes,” he added.

His tribute continued: “Mum, you are the most amazing, beautiful and wonderful woman. You had the biggest, softest heart and two big brown beautiful loving eyes.

“She had always a hello for everyone and loved to hear people were doing well.

“I am so grateful for everything you did for us, for your constant unwavering love, support and guidance and for being a huge part of our lives.

“We are totally heartbroken beyond comprehension and devastated by this painful loss of the most important person in our lives, our world.”
