David Healy’s Linfield produced a devastating eight-minute first half spell to swat away the challenge of Dungannon Swifts at Windsor Park.

The Blues followed up their opening day win at Ballymena United by producing another convincing display of possession football.

Ironically, it was the Swifts who carved out the first big chance when James Knowles somehow scooped Andy Mitchell’s cross over the crossbar from six yards.

But the Blues put their foot on the gas after that and took the lead on 28 minutes when Ethan McGee found Joel Cooper, whose low shot left goalkeeper Declan Dunne rooted to the spot.

The home team struck again five minutes later. This time Kyle McClean volleyed home after Matthew Fitzpatrick’s header had rebounded off Cathal McGinty.

It was three on 36 minutes. Cooper’s cross from the left was headed clear by Adam Glenny but only to Chris Shields, who volleyed home from 25 yards.

The Swifts his back two minutes after the interval. Substitute Thomas Maguire fired in a cross from the right that found Glenny at the back post and he thundered the ball past Chris Johns, but that was as good as it got.
