Police say they have made arrests in the homicide of an Owen Sound restaurateur — but that’s all they are saying about it.

In a press release on Thursday, OPP and the Owen Sound Police Service announced that their ongoing joint homicide investigation into the death of Sharif Rahman had resulted in arrests made on July 30.

But who they arrested and where and on what charges was not released.

“Due to the complexity of this ongoing investigation and to protect its integrity and potential court proceedings, the OPP and OSPS are unable to comment further at this time. Updates will be provided when they become available,” the release said.

Rahman, 44, was assaulted at around 9:20 p.m. on Aug.17, 2023, outside of his family-owned restaurant in the area of 2nd Avenue East in Owen Sound.

He died of his injuries on Aug. 24.

Shortly after his death, police released a description and photos of two suspects and a vehicle, requesting public information.

“The OSPS and the OPP thank the Owen Sound community for their support and valuable tips provided,” the police said Thursday.

“We recognize the significant impact this case has had on the community and we sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience as we continue to conduct a thorough and comprehensive investigation.

The investigation continues and anyone with any information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or ontariocrimestoppers.ca.
