Volunteers have been searching the Mourne Mountains in an effort to find a missing 20-year old man.

Daniel Brown was last seen in the Downpatrick area on August 10 and is believed to have been camping in the popular beauty spot in Co Down, according to the PSNI.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Daniel was last seen in the Downpatrick area on 10/08/24 and thought to be camping in Mourne Mountains.

“He possibly has a large bag with him and wearing a grey/black hoody and a green/blue jacket.

“If you have seen Daniel or have any information regarding his whereabouts please contact 101 and quote serial 891 from 13/08/24.”

Speaking to the Belfast Telegraph, one of the volunteers Lynne Troughton said she had taken the day off work to help with the search in the mountain area in a bid to find him.

“I wakened up this morning to a lot of people private messaging me the story and tagging me in the missing person post,” said Lynne who is an experienced climber and hiker of the area.

“I put onto different social media platforms that I was going to go search for Daniel if anyone wanted to join me.”

She has now been communicating with Daniel’s mother in her efforts to find her missing son.

“This is when Daniel’s mum responded under one of my posts. I would know my around the Mournes for camping and hiking so I have started the search in Donard forest and have been showing people along the way the picture of Daniel.

“I’m also in contact with Daniel’s mum to inform her on the search as well as different people on Facebook hiking groups I have also updated and they are on the search as well.

“The more eyes around the Mournes the better our chances. I have my drone having a Birds Eye view to cover more ground.”

The Mourne Mountains remains a popular destination for campers across Northern Ireland, however nature groups warn against camping in the area without the proper precautions and supplies.
