CAPTAIN LEAFS
The Maple Leafs news conference Wednesday just goes to show you what a class act John Tavares is. It is great to have him part of the Leafs team and hopefully he re-signs again next season. We wish Auston Matthews all the best in bringing a Cup to this great city.

Joe Adams
Stouffville

(A change in leadership on the team may be just what they need and Tavares’ presence at the press conference was important)

CBC ARROGANCE
Re “CBC paid over $18M in bonuses in 2024 after it eliminated hundreds of jobs” (The Canadian Press, Aug. 12): This callous, ignorant move should have more Canadians supporting Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s promise to defund the Liberal government’s propaganda machine, i.e. the CBC. As has consistently been the case, the bloated upper echelon of the CBC continues to feel entitled to lavish salaries. This CBC arrogant move, while begging for even more taxpayer financial support, clearly shows the CBC is not interested in serving Canadians but their own bank accounts!

Larry Comeau
Ottawa

(We should believe him when Poilievre says he will defund the CBC. He rarely misses an opportunity to say this so when the usual suspects cry about it when he does, remember it was not a secret)

SETS OF RULES
Instead of focusing their protest in one geographic area, the truckers should have sporadically and continuously blocked key intersections, roadways, vandalized private property, and harassed businesses, institutions and citizens everywhere. Seems to be working for pro-Hamas sympathizers who to do all of this with apparently legal immunity. Time that Canadians had a conversation about who seeks refuge in the Charter.

Steve Peck
Brampton

(Don’t forget their bank accounts were frozen by the Trudeau Liberals in a disgusting move)

DEMS FIGURED SOMETHING OUT
Isn’t it a bit weird that the democrats in the U.S.A. have concluded that their country can’t afford a universal health-care system with the government as the single payer, but we can!

Doug Appt
Niagara Falls, Ont.

(Canada cannot continue to “afford” single payer)

SECURITY THREAT
The Trudeau government is a national security threat to Canada. Ignorance of potential threats to this country for whatever reason exposes Canada for what it is on the international stage. The Americans are paying attention to what is going on its northern border.

(Weak leadership has put us at risk)
