An urgent search has been launched for a missing 16-year-old boy who got into difficulty in the water in Cambridge.

Police say the incident happened yesterday shortly before 5.30pm at Burnside Lakes.


The teenager is said to be from the Essex area, and was swimming in the lake with a group of friends.

Rescue teams have been searching the lake but the 16-year-old is yet to be located.

A Cambridge Police spokeswoman said: “It is believed the boy, who is 16 and from the Essex area, was swimming in the lake with a group of friends when he got into difficulty.

“Search teams remain at the lake to find the boy and we ask that members of the public stay away from the area while this work is carried out.

“The boy’s family are aware.”
