• Yes, a Canadian company has become the first to offer armoured-up Ineos Grenadier SUVs
  • The option sheet is long, and can include features like multi-layer ballistic glass
  • Even everyday Canadians could use the run-flat tires, designed to help drivers escape hairy situations

High-ranking politicians, controversial rock stars, and entrepreneurs of powdery substances may be interested to learn that Inkas – a Canadian company offering vehicle armouring services – is now upfitting the rugged Ineos Grenadier with its products, apparently making it the first such bullet-proofer to tackle to the popular new SUV.

Inkas promotes the armoured Ineos as a blending of “exceptional off-road capability with top-tier protection.” According to the company, the entire passenger cabin, roof, and floor of the vehicle are protected from ballistic fire and blasts to ensure the safety of passengers. High-quality ballistic glass provides protection from multiple angles while maintaining a clear view and replicating the OEM window curvature. The latter is apparently important for maintaining a clandestine appearance.

By default of design, SUVs have a large opening into their cargo areas. To maintain protection from those intent on inflicting harm, Inkas installs a tightly fitted armoured bulkhead to separate the cabin and cargo compartments, said to protect passengers while enabling full use of the vehicle’s storage space. Traditional cars like a Mercedes S-Class sedan do not require this gear when fitted with armouring. Run-flat tires are also part of the deal, as is protection for the fuel tank.

Should you be on someone’s extra-naughty list, Inkas offers an array of optional protection. This includes the likes of engine-bay armouring, fire-suppression systems, a roof escape hatch, and oxygen filtration kit. Might as well go for the reinforced front and rear bumpers while yer at it. Inkas says its efforts should protect a Grenadier against an assault rifle with 7.62-mm ammunition; or two hand grenades with DM51-rated blasts. Good to know.

Elsewhere in the Inkas portfolio we find machines like the armoured Cadillac Escalade ESV, a hulking beast offering protection against artillery similar to what the Grenadier can defend against while looking for all the world like everything we’ve ever seen in movies. Inkas Armored Vehicle Manufacturing has been producing bulletproof vehicles for two decades, and is based near Toronto.
