A body has been found in the search for a kayaker who went missing off the Co Waterford coast on Monday morning.

The kayaker, a man in his 60s, went missing off Helvick Head in Dungarvan.

A search and rescue operation was launched by the Irish coast guard, gardai, the Irish Navy and the RNLI.

The search was paused overnight and recommenced at 5.30am on Tuesday.

A body was found in the water on Tuesday morning and is to be taken to University Hospital Waterford where a post-mortem examination will take place.

The rescue operation has been called off.

Several units from Bunmahon Admore, Tramore, Youghal and Dunmore East and rescue helicopter R117 took part in the search efforts.
