• It’s testing time: as the Wagoneer S EV nears production, engineers are flinging the thing around a snowy New Zealand course
  • The all-new electric Jeep model is expected to get 480 km (300 miles) of battery range in some trims
  • Don’t call it a concept, the Wagoneer S should launch later this year in North America

For reasons unknown to mankind, it is an increasingly common occurrence for Stellantis to break product news on LinkedIn, of all places. (I hate this timeline.) But persevere we shall, since said news involves the upcoming all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S — you know, the crossover which shares a lot more in common with the Tesla Model Y than any other Wagoneer, at least in terms of overall dimension. It’d be cool if the ‘S’ stood for a historic name like “Scrambler” or something, but alas.

At this point, my editors are screaming at me to get to the actual, you know, news. According to a post on LinkedIn (*shudder*) tied to an account belonging to Antonio Filosa, CEO of Jeep Brand, the Wagoneer S is undergoing winter testing in the frozen wastelands of New Zealand.

Wait, what? Oh, right — it’s winter down there at this time of year. Meteorologic aberrations aside, the Jeep EV is shown providing a dose of snowy fun to the engineer plunked in its driver seat.

Filosa goes on to note the Wagoneer S has a Snow mode baked into its Selec-Terrain traction management system, with those rooster tails of snow suggesting there will be a measure of wheelspin permitted in this mode.

The post reiterates how certain trims of the Wagoneer S will be able to eke out more than 300 miles (480 kilometres) of range on a fully charged battery, though different trims and option packages will assuredly affect that number. Remember, even just opting for larger wheels tends to scupper EV range to a certain degree.

The all-electric Jeep Wagoneer S is expected to appear in North America later this calendar year as a 2025 model. Other markets will have to wait a few months.
