Two people who perished in a murder-suicide last week have been identified by Hamilton Police.

Police said officers found the bodies of Barbara Church, 77, and Derek Emmons, 51, while conducting a well-being check at an apartment located at 112 Ottawa St., N., last Thursday.

Emergency responders found a barricaded and locked door, which they forced open and located the bodies in the apartment.

Church was found dead on the bed with a stab wound, while Emmons died from a self-inflicted injury. A bloody knife was found at the scene.

An autopsy found Church’s death to be a homicide and determined Emmons died by suicide.

Police have not been able to locate Church’s next of kin but continue to look for relatives.

Emmons’s family has been notified of his death.
