A Royal-class cruise ship docked in Belfast for a day.

The Regal Princess liner arrived in the city on Sunday morning at 7am before leaving the harbour at 8pm.

The 5,600 capacity ship is set to arrive in Clydeport, Scotland on Monday morning before moving on to France and returning to England.

Passengers were given a day to explore Belfast with a range of cruise buses taking passengers from the harbour into the city centre.

The ship is one of the most frequent visitors to Belfast during the 2024 season, with eight calls scheduled.

Princess Regal Cruise Ship

Princess Regal gained notoriety in 2022 as the setting of the American and Australian versions of The Real Love Boat, a reality show which aired on CBS and Network 10.

The ship houses 1,780 passenger cabins and 751 crew cabins.

It is operated by Princess Cruises and is the second ship to sail for the cruise line under the Regal Princess name. Her sister ship Royal Princess debuted in 2014 and has travelled across the world over the past 10 years.

Both ships include a ‘SeaWalk’, a cantilevered glass walkway that juts out from the Lido Deck, allowing passengers to take in unobstructed views of the sea below.

Aside from the Seawalk, some notable features aboard the ship include a multi-level atrium, a theatre, various dining rooms and restaurants, as well as pools.

The ship measures 142,714 gross tonnage, has a length of 330 metres, a draught of 8.5 metres, and a beam of 38.4 metres.

When the ship debuted in 2014, Giacomo Mortola, the head architect, said he drew inspiration from a range of different sources.

“Mainly it is a combination of warm, elegant tones that convey a feeling of comfort and sophistication,” he said at the time.

“One example — a favourite architect of mine, Frank Lloyd Wright, used wood, bronze, and leather-covered walls, and I used these materials to impart the look and feel of the aft dining room.

“These materials were also used in the entertainment areas including the Princess Theater, Vista Lounge, and TV Studio contributing to the acoustic quality in these areas.”
