Manchester United have agreed deals with Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui ahead of their Community Shield clash with fierce rivals Manchester City.

The Red Devils face their neighbours with the first trophy of the new season on the line.

United have already signed one defender this summer in the form of Leny Yoro.

With the 18-year-old facing three months out due to injury, however, the Athletic say the Red Devils have moved for De Ligt.

United will pay an initial fee of £38million for the Netherlands international, who previously played under Ten Hag at Ajax.

Bayern will also get an extra £4.2m in add-ons as part of the arrangement.

United were among the teams interested in landing De Ligt when he opted to leave Ajax back in the summer transfer window of 2019.

They missed out on that occasion, with Juventus ultimately winning the race. Four years on, however, and he’s now theirs pending a medical.

United have also agreed a separate deal with Bayern for Mazraoui.

Like De Ligt he’s previously played under Ten Hag, having flourished under the Dutchman at Ajax.

United will pay an initial fee of £13m for the 26-year-old, with another £4.2m in add-ons.

The deal is ‘contingent’, however, on Aaron Wan-Bissaka departing Old Trafford after a five-year stint.
