A 57-year-old man was arrested after a bomb scare at a Niagara Falls hotel on Friday.

Niagara Regional Police say officers responded to the hotel on Portage Rd., between Chippawa Pkwy. and Front St., shortly before 9 a.m.

Police say a man from one of the hotel rooms allegedly entered another room claiming to have set up an explosive device.

Police evacuated the other hotel rooms and Portage Rd. was closed to traffic.

Niagara Emergency Medical Services and the Niagara Falls Fire Service were on scene.

The Explosive Disposal Unit was called in and the man’s room was secured.

No explosive device was found.

Police located a suspect walking on Portage Rd. a kilometer away from the hotel and he was arrested.

Paul Anthony Paparoni, of Niagara Falls, is charged with mischief.
