The hunt is on for a hit-and-run driver who fled the scene after seriously injuring a pedestrian in Scarborough.

Toronto Police say the pedestrian was struck while crossing the street in the area of Ellesmere and McCowan Rds. just after 1 a.m. on Wednesday.

“A vehicle, believed to be a small grey SUV, was travelling eastbound on Ellesmere Rd., approaching McCowan Rd.,” Const. Shannon Eames said in a statement released Wednesday.

“A pedestrian was crossing the road on McCowan Rd. from the south to north corner on the west side of the intersection. The vehicle struck the pedestrian, causing them to be pushed across the intersection,” she said.

Eames said the driver drove off and was last seen heading east on Ellesmere.

“The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital,” she added. No other information on the victim was released.
