A 60-year-old man shopping in Tesco was punched in the face before being rushed to hospital.
Officers responded to calls from concerned shoppers who witnessed a fight break out in the Tesco Extra on Portman Road in Reading at around 10.00pm on Saturday.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment, whilst many locals speculated online on the cause of the fight.
Tesco have provided CCTV to the force to aid them with their investigation.

This comes as also on Friday, police launched an appeal for witnesses following reports of youths chasing each other with a weapon at a Tesco Extra in Stourport, Worcestershire.
Police received reports of an incident at around 4.30pm on Thursday, which involved a male chasing around two others with a “metal instrument” – later confirmed to be a “short pole”.

The man is described as white, aged around 16 to 17, of slim build with brown hair and wearing black shoes, black tracksuit bottoms, a bright orange top and a bag with a red and black strap.
Just a day prior, a Tesco worker was rushed to hospital after being sprayed with a substance in a “chemical incident”.
Emergency services were called to Oxlow Lane, in Dagenham, East London, at 3.49pm on July 31 following reports of an injured man in the Tesco store.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) dispatched two fire engines following the “chemical incident”.

It has been reported that a customer left the store before returning and spraying the male worker with an unknown substance.
The victims injuries are thought to be non-life threatening.
Officers say that a member of staff at Tesco had been involved in an altercation with a customer.
