Both scheduled Premiership games in the North West fell victim to the weather with title hopefuls Newbuildings grateful that their clash with rivals Brigade was abandoned.

Returning to the scene of their historic maiden Senior Cup triumph last week, it was a very different picture this time around as they were staring down the barrel of a heavy loss, floundering on 23 for 6 when the players came off, never to return.

Jason Dunn’s run out by a direct hit from Scott Macbeth sparked the rout, with South African professional Marcello Piedt taking three wickets including Pakistani replacement professional Imran Rafiq.

Brigade skipper Andy Britton also looked dangerous picking up the wickets of Ryan Hunter and Jack McIvor.

The sides will have a second chance to get a result in a few weeks’ time but Coleraine and Ardmore’s relegation woes continue after their second and final attempt was also abandoned, meaning no points for either.

The Bannsiders had reached 101 for four in 25 overs with runs for Matthew Smyth, Scott Campbell and Craig Averill before the heavy rain left the officials with little option but to abandon.

Coleraine stay sixth, one place above Ardmore, as they and bottom side Killyclooney look to avoid the drop into the Championship in the final four games of the campaign
