Adam Peaty could still take part at the Paris Olympics despite Team GB confirming the 29-year-old will not take part in the mixed 4x100m medley relay heats on Friday morning.

The 29-year-old tested positive for coronavirus on Monday, less than 24 hours after he’d won silver in the 100m breaststroke.

Peaty has five medals to his name and fans are eager to see the swimming sensation back in action.

Team GB have confirmed he won’t be involved in the mixed medley relay heats today, despite the veteran posting images of himself in the pool on Thursday.

However, there’s still a possibility he’ll be able to play a part in the games this summer.

Missing the heats does not mean Peaty cannot come in for the final on Saturday evening, providing Team GB qualify.

Peaty could also compete in the men’s 4x100m medley relay, which is due to begin on Saturday.

The swimmer didn’t take part in the heats when Britain secured bronze at the World Championships in the mixed event earlier this year, though did come in for the final.

On Thursday, Peaty appears to be making progress in his recovery from Covid.

The 29-year-old shared snaps of himself back in the pool, accompanying his post with a caption that read: “Back in the water with the French public today (2 days of bed rest).”

Peaty performed a shaka gesture as he smiled for the camera.

The Team GB star was also reunited with girlfriend Holly Ramsay, the daughter of celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

“Got to see my [love heart emoji] today,” she wrote on her own Instagram story.

Peaty is used to winning gold.

But he was delighted at claiming silver on Sunday, with the 29-year-old insisting his tears were down to joy, rather than sadness or disappointment.

“I love the sport and I love how far it’s taken me and the challenge every single day,” he said.

“The relationship I’ve got with this sport is: I’m all in.

“That comes at a cost of spending time with boy, spending time doing things I want to do as an older man.

“My heart is so happy and I am so grateful that I can theoretically lose and feel like I have still won.”
