Olympic gold medal winner and Coleraine rower Hannah Scott has said she and her team hope to meet rapper Snoop Dogg as they recover from winning their race in the quadruple sculls on Wednesday.

Speaking to the BBC Ms Scott said she and her team Lauren Henry, Lola Anderson and Georgie Brayshaw have been celebrating with “a bit of a dance, which has been really cool”. She added: “It’s been good for us to spend some time with our friends and family who we haven’t been able to see. We’re really grateful for everyone who has been on our journey along the way.”

Along with friends and family, however, Ms Scott said a famous face in the crowds of spectators in Paris is also someone she’d like to run into.

“We would like to see Snoop Dogg,” she said.

The hip-hop legend has been a bright star, albeit a non-athlete, in Paris and has shown his support for Team USA across events. he is also providing content and commentary for NBC during the games.

He also played his part in the Olympic Torch run, carrying the Olympic flame in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis as it made the final stretch toward the Opening Ceremony site.

Ms Scott thanked the support staff who’ve supported the team on their Olympic dream and spoke of the hard work that led the four athletes to this moment.

“We’ve been training for three years – every day, we’re practicing the race calls

The important thing is to stay calm “even if the tone of my voice is off and I sound stressed that sends panic through the boat and slows us down,” she said.

“We’ve just got to flow with the boat and that keeps us calm. You kind of have to have a bit of relaxation in rowing.”

The thrilling women’s quadruple sculls final which saw Team GB take victory also resulted in Ms Scott becoming the third athlete from Northern Ireland to win a gold medal in the space of 24 hours at the Paris Olympics.

Great Britain pipped the Netherlands to gold by just 0.15 seconds after trailing the Dutch crew for the entirety of the race until the final metre.
