A 29-year-old Florida man who emerged from an almost year-long coma after his motorcycle was hit by a car seven years ago, recently died in a traffic accident, reports PEOPLE.

Drew Kohn was walking around 5:30 a.m. on July 26 eastbound on a Jacksonville road when a Ford pickup also heading eastbound hit him, said the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office in an email to PEOPLE.

“At that time, it was dark, and the pedestrian was not wearing reflective clothing,” said the sheriff’s office statement.

“Unfortunately, the driver of the pickup truck did not see the pedestrian and struck him on the outside lane. The driver of the pickup truck stopped and called 911. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue (JFRD) responded to the scene and pronounced victim deceased.”

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office added that the truck’s driver stayed at the scene and there were no other injuries.

His mother, Yolanda Osborne-Kohn told NBC affiliate WTLV she was not mad about her son’s death.

“God honoured my request, and I’m not mad,” said Osborne-Kohn.  “I’m not angry. I’m at peace. I got seven years and like Hezekiah who turned his face to the wall, I remember sitting on Drew’s hospital bed and saying to myself, ‘Thy will be done.’ ”

Back on July 17, 2017, Kohn was on his motorcycle when it collided with a car leaving him unconscious and he was sent to the hospital in a coma with a traumatic brain injury,  a broken shoulder, impaled lungs and other injuries said WTLV.

“Doctors thought he was brain dead and would never walk or talk again,” said a GoFundMe page created following Kohn’s recent death.

Osborne-Kohn told WTLV that the doctors were considering retrieving her son’s organs for donation due to his condition at the time but she refused.

“It was because of my faith that gave me the boldness to speak up and push back and let them know ‘you’re not getting a toenail or an eyelash,’” said Osborne-Kohn.

Then in March 2018, 244 days after the accident, Kohn came out of his coma and said to his mother, according to First Coast News: “I love you, Mom.”

The GoFundMe page created to help Kohn’s family pay for his funeral expenses had raised over $11,000 U.S. so far by Tuesday afternoon.

“Drew is healed, walking, not struggling to keep his balance,” said Osborne-Kohn to WLTV, following her son’s death.

“His arm is probably lifted so high saying ‘Thank you, Jesus!’ Drew probably has a football in one hand and a Bible in the other.”
