The province’s police watchdog has released details in Saturday’s incident at a Pickering police station that left two officers with minor injuries and the suspect seriously injured.
The Special Investigations Unit says a 29-year-old man entered the Durham Regional Police station near Kingston and Brock Rds. around 4:30 p.m.
He was armed with an air pistol and he “discharged projectiles,” the SIU said.
“Two officers attempted to arrest the man, during which two officers discharged their conducted energy weapons.”
However, the SIU says the officers “were not successful in subduing the man” and “continued efforts were made to bring the man into custody.”
The man then barricaded himself in the public bathroom and “shot the air pistol multiple times.”
He was eventually arrested and taken to hospital, ” where he was diagnosed with a serious injury.” The type of injury was not disclosed.
Two Durham officers suffered minor injuries.
Three investigators and one forensic investigator have been assigned to the case.
