A man is in custody after a handgun and drugs were seized during a traffic stop in Oshawa.

On Monday at 2:10 a.m., Durham Regional Police performed a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle in the area of Simcoe and Athol Sts. and allegedly discovered open containers of alcohol.

Police say they then conducted a search of the vehicle and its occupants and seized a handgun and drugs.

Omar McGregor, 30, of no fixed address, is charged with carry concealed weapon, possess loaded restricted firearm, possess restricted firearm no licence, possess firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with, occupy motor vehicle with firearm, possess illicit cannabis, possess schedule I substance for the purposes of trafficking (cocaine), possess schedule I substance for the purposes of trafficking (fentanyl), and breach of prohibition order.

DURHAM COP ASSAULTED

A Durham Regional Police officer was repeatedly assaulted by a suspect during an impaired driving arrest in Whitby

On Saturday at 2:10 a.m., police responded to an impaired driver call at a restaurant parking lot in the area of Taunton Rd. and Garden St. 

The suspect was seen driving in an unsafe and suspicious manner and police initiated a traffic stop by blocking the vehicle. 

Officers say the driver exhibited signs of impairment and when police tried to arrest him, he resisted and allegedly struck an officer repeatedly. 

The man was taken into custody and the officer sustained minor injuries.

Peter Nihan Scott, 46, of Oshawa is charged with operation while impaired, operation while impaired exceed, assault peace officer, and assault with intent to resist arrest. 

YOUTH SHOT IN MISSISSAUGA

Peel Regional Police are asking for help their investigation of the shooting of a boy in Mississauga.

On Monday around 4:30 p.m., a shooting occurred in the area of Glenn Hawthorne Blvd. and Hurontario St.

A male youth, whose age was not released, was taken to hospital suffering from gunshot wounds.

His injuries are serious but non-life-threatening and he is in stable condition.

There is no suspect description at this time.
