The City of Toronto’s parking fines for 123 offences are increasing this week “to help curb illegal parking, stopping and standing in designated areas.”

The new increased fines beginning Thursday include parking without paying at a parking meter (increase from $30 to $50), parking a prohibited vehicle on a bicycle path (increase from $60 to $200), and non-electric vehicles or electric vehicles parked and not actively charging in an electric vehicle charging stall will get a $75 fine.

The fine increases were approved by city council in April based on a review by staff that found raising fines “could reduce and discourage illegal parking habits, aiming to keep the city moving and safe.”

Officials are also hoping to encourage people to use other modes of transportation such as public transit, cycling or walking.
