Coleraine woman Hannah Scott will go for Olympic gold in Wednesday’s Quadruple Sculls Final in Paris after helping Great Britain and Northern Ireland win their heat on Saturday morning.

Scott, alongside teammates Lauren Henry, Lola Anderson and Georgina Brayshaw, fought through the Parisian rain to put in an impressive display as the British boat won the heat with a time of 6.13.35, over a second ahead of Germany who also qualify for the final.

A delighted Scott said: “The weather makes it feel just like home!

“Being from Britain, we’re used to the weather so it wasn’t a problem for us. It’s a bit windy and unpredictable, but we have been preparing all year for this so we kept calm and stuck to our processes.”

Britain and Germany will be joined in Wednesday’s final by the top two from the other head – Netherlands and Ukraine – while Australia, China, Romania, Switzerland and USA will fight it out for the final place in the final in Monday’s Repechage.

Team GB will start the race as favourites for gold after recording the best time across both heats.
