A businessman has died in a tragic farming incident in Co Armagh.

The 55-year-old passed away after an accident at a farm near Lurgan on Friday night.

It is understood the deceased was a local business owner.

Local DUP MLA William Irwin told the ArmaghI website: “This man was a father and was very well-known in the area. It’s an incredibly sad time for his family, friends and wider community as they come to terms with his loss.

“My thoughts and prayers will be with them.”

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Police received a report of the sudden death of a man aged in his 50s in the Ballynery North Road area of Lurgan on Friday evening, July 26.

“Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues from other emergency services.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious at this time and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed.”

The HSE said it was informed of “an incident on a farm in the Lurgan area yesterday evening, July 26.

“Inspectors have attended the scene and are making further enquiries.”

It is the second farm tragedy in Northern Ireland in recent days.

Harold Gilmore passed away last Saturday evening after an incident on his farm near Dromore, Co Tyrone.

It is understood Mr Gilmore died following an accident while working with livestock.
