The funeral of a retired orthodontist found dead in Londonderry will take place today.

Dr Noel O’Sullivan’s remains were discovered at his home at Culmore Road on July 17.

His son, John Garrett O’Sullivan (55), appeared in court earlier this week charged with attempting to prevent his burial.

A funeral notice for Dr O’Sullivan, who was aged in his 80s, said he died “unexpectedly at home”.

Requiem mass will take place at St Patrick’s Church, Pennyburn.

The funeral notice said Dr O’Sullivan was the “beloved husband of Ann and father of NoelleAnne, Moire and Garrett.

“Requiem Mass will take place on Saturday July 27 at 12 noon in St Patrick’s Church, Pennyburn, Derry followed by private burial.

“Family flowers only please. May he rest in peace. Aeterna Non Caduca.”

His son is accused of attempting to prevent the lawful and decent burial of his father on dates between July 1 and 17.

He told police he had put his father in the refrigerator to preserve the body, as well as his privacy and dignity.

He said that he did not contact a GP as his father had already died.
