Glenn Irwin charged from the back of the grid to salvage seventh place at Brands Hatch in race three on Sunday after being passed fit following a nasty crash.

The Hager PBM Ducati rider was wiped out on the first lap at Paddock Hill Bend when Danny Buchan and Danny Kent went down.

The race was later red-flagged when Luke Hedger came off at Hawthorns and held over a five-lap sprint, with Ryan Vickers claiming the win on the OMG Yamaha ahead of Honda’s Tommy Bridewell and Kyle Ryde (OMG Yamaha).

Vickers wrapped up a dominant hat-trick, beating Christian Iddon (Oxford Products Ducati) and Ryde by three seconds, with new championship leader Bridewell a close fourth.

Carrickfergus man Irwin, who lined up at the rear of the grid in 23rd position for race three, said: “My confidence was high but, unfortunately, another rider’s mistake caused a crash, and I genuinely thought my season may have been over.

“Full credit to the BSB medics and my own physio, they got me ready for the race and I showed the fight and resilience in me.”

Irwin trails reigning champion Bridewell by 19 points with five rounds remaining.

His brother Andrew (Honda Racing) — third in Saturday’s first race — was fourth and fifth on Sunday.

Donegal’s Richard Kerr, filling in for the injured Rory Skinner on the Cheshire Mouldings BMW, claimed 16th and 22nd.

Dublin’s Jack Kennedy completed a Supersport double, with Richard Cooper third for Northern Ireland team BPE by Russell Racing Yamaha.

Lee Johnston, making his racing comeback after breaking his leg in testing earlier this year, was 20th on the Ashcourt Racing Triumph.

Antrim’s Nikki Coates won the main BMW F900 Cup race, while David Allingham was the leading Northern Ireland rider in Sunrday’s National Superstock 1000 race, finishing seventh.

Round seven takes place at Thruxton from August 9-11.

Meanwhile, the Neil and Donny Robinson Memorial Ulster Superbike meeting concluded on Sunday after rain hampered the schedule on Saturday at Bishopscourt in Co Down.

Jonny Campbell won the feature Neil Robinson Superbike race by almost four seconds from Ryan Gibson, with Ross Irwin in third. Gibson later turned the tables on Campbell to win the second Superbike race.

Belfast’s Mark Conlin claimed the spoils in the Donny Robinson Memorial Supersport race by only 0.2s from Christian Elkin.

Conlin was a double winner in the Supersport class, also beating Elkin in the opener, who won both Supertwin races.

At the Cock O’ the North meeting at Oliver’s Mount in Scarborough, Cookstown man Gary McCoy won the feature race from Rob Hodson.
