Two men have been arrested after an incident involving a firearm in Co Louth in which three people were injured.

Two men in their 20s were taken to hospital, and a man in his 50s was also injured, in the incident at a residential location close to Dundalk on Friday.

Two men in their 20s have been arrested by gardai investigating the discharge of a firearm and an incident of assault.

A Garda spokesman said one of the men who was arrested is being detained under the Offences Against the State Act, and the second man under the Criminal Justice Act.

Both are being held at Garda stations in the Co Louth area.
