Sadiq Khan has revealed that he received a bullet in the post as anti-Ulez protests took over London in 2023.

The Mayor of London was also warned that his life was at risk after his Ulez scheme prompted widespread backlash.

Khan admitted that he did not realise “how tough” implementing the road charge project would be in an updated version of his political memoir, Breathe.

Ahead of his election for a third term, he wrote that he faced “the fight of our lives” during May’s mayoral elections, according to the Evening Standard.

Since the Ulez expansion, activists have destroyed cameras and carried out rallies across the city.

Khan recalled one instance where he was forced to remain in the “green room” under police safety orders after he said some anti-Ulez protesters were “joining hands” with the far-Right at a People’s Question Time event in Ealing.

During the incident in March 2023, a decoy car was set up in order to assist him leaving the venue safely.

He said the same group of protesters “started showing up outside my home and targeted my wife and daughters”.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

He penned: “For several days, a caravan was chained by my home bearing slogans and artwork that included swastikas.

“A letter came in the mail, addressed to me, with a bullet inside.

“On one occasion, Saadiya and I had been issued with an Osman warning: a serious letter and a briefing in person where there is intelligence of a threat to someone’s life, but not enough evidence to justify the police arresting the possible offender.”

The Mayor added that the other world city leaders were watching the London election to determine whether the daily cap scheme was “electorally toxic”.
