Zara Tindall and Princess Beatrice “relied on built-in security” during a recent outing, a royal commentator has claimed.

King Charles’s nieces stepped out at Wimbledon on separate days earlier this month alongside their respective husbands.

Zara, 43, and Beatrice, 35, made the outings in a personal capacity as neither are working members of the Royal Family.

In contrast, when Queen Camilla attended Wimbledon, she was entitled to taxpayer-funded security from the Metropolitan Police as a senior working royal.

Gareth Russell, a royal commentator, spoke exclusively to GB News to explain how Zara and Beatrice were kept safe during their visit to SW19.

He said: “It’s worth remembering that big events like Wimbledon will always have a certain amount of built-in security from the organisers.

“Any event like that can be a target for anyone, and it’s not just members of the Royal Family, like Princess Beatrice and Zara Tindall who were there, there are even massive numbers of celebrities.

“While, of course, there’s no equivalency in terms of constitutional significance, both royals and celebrities are frequently the targets of stalkers or people who wish them harm.

“And so with any event like that, there will be security provided.”

Richard Fitzwilliams, another royal commentator, also spoke exclusively to GB News on the issue of royal security.

He added: “The thing with security is it’s just never discussed.

“One may surmise or assume, but you couldn’t be quoted on it because you wouldn’t know. No one announces.

“Prince Harry’s security became a very big issue, of course, because when the Sussexes stepped down as working royals, they lost automatic security.

“They get it on a case-by-case basis and he’s challenging that.

“But I wouldn’t be able to comment on other royals.

“You could assume there would be precautions, but you couldn’t say as it’s not announced.”
