Video footage shows a Brampton basement completely flooded in the aftermath of torrential rain that wreaked havoc across the GTA on Tuesday.

In the clip, shared by popular social-media account 6ixbuzz.media, people — presumably tenants — can be seen splashing their way through the entirely ruined living area.

Several mattresses, piles of clothing and overturned appliances, including a fridge, are shown along with someone holding a TV.

The murky water appears to reach close to knee height as the people gather belongings.

“Now they can rent it as a Waterfront property,” one social-media user commented.

But the situation there and elsewhere is no laughing matter.

In nearby Mississauga, first responders said it took almost 12 hours to rescue more than 100 residents from a flooded long-term care home. Thousands of litres of water that had overflown from nearby Etobicoke Creek were pumped out as water rescue teams used boats to transport residents to safety.

Authorities said 116 residents were relocated to two long-term care homes and two hotels, and none of them required emergency treatment.

The heavy downpours caused chaos across Toronto and the surrounding area, with massive flooding shutting down several major routes and terminals and knocking out power to thousands.
