The Secret Service has been urged to “appear in front of Congress” to answer for the security failures that led to the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump.

The 45th President of the US was shot at by a 20-year-old gunman during his campaign rally in Pennsylvania, where he was struck on his ear by one of the bullets.

Thomas Matthew Crooks was shot at the scene by Secret Service, but the security force has been criticised for their lack of preparation which enabled the gunman to enter the event.

Speaking to GB News, political analyst Eric Hamm said the “brazen” assassination attempt was “striking”, given an attempt hadn’t taken place for “over 40 years”.

Reacting to the shooting, Hamm told GB News: “Right now there is an investigation to actually try to find out the motives behind what led this 20-year-old individual to brazenly attempt this assassination on the life of former President Donald Trump.

“In addition to that, there are reports from US intelligence agencies that Iran was also planning to or to or trying to plot an assassination of the former President.”

Noting that the Secret Service was “aware” of the reports from Iran, Hamm also confirmed that there was “no correlation” between the actions of Crooks and the reported plans from Iran.

When asked by Martin about the “conspiracies” made by the Democrats that the shooting was a “staged event”, Hamm revealed that there are now calls for the Secret Service to “appear in front of Congress” to answer questions about the incident.

Hamm explained: “I do know that already that there have been calls for the head of the Secret Service to actually appear before Congress to answer questions about what exactly happened.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

“How was this able to happen, and what measures need to be put in place to ensure that something like this doesn’t happen again.”

In criticism of the Secret Service, Hamm continued: “It’s very striking because again, we’re talking about the potential assassination of an ex-president. Something like this hasn’t happened in more than 40 years.

“And right now we’re getting very little information about that, including the fact of what actually happened to Donald Trump.

“We’re told that a bullet actually pierced his ear, but we don’t have any medical records. We haven’t heard from the attending physician who actually saw Donald Trump after in the wake of this shooting, and so there’s very little information that’s out there right now.”

When asked about Trump’s campaign going forward and if we will see a “changed Trump” in light of the assassination attempt, Hamm said it is currently “unclear” how Trump will act at his next appearance.

Hamm told GB News: “I think we will get a very clear detail of what we’re going to hear and see from the ex-president, based on what his running mate will say.

“We heard last night from Nikki Haley, but it’s unclear what we’re going to hear from Donald Trump beginning tomorrow night. Which is why I think so many people will be tuning in.”
