A man aged in his 40s has been killed in a hit-and-run incident in Dublin.

The pedestrian was struck by a stolen car in Baldoyle shortly before 1am on Wednesday.

Gardai said the vehicle involved failed to remain at the scene of the collision.

Gardai involvement in the wider incident related to the stolen car, prior to the collision, has been referred to the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission.

The referral does not relate to the fatal crash itself.

The local coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination was being arranged.

The road where the crash happened was closed overnight to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.

Gardai have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

Any road users travelling in the area at the time who may have camera footage are also asked to make it available to investigating gardai.
