Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has been urged to “focus on immigration first”, as Britain’s new leader unveiled his plans for the country in the official state opening of Parliament.

Opened by King Charles and Queen Camilla, the monarch read out the Government’s 39 new law-making plans, including the Planning and Infrastructure Bill, the Great British Energy Bill and a Railways Bill.

Reacting to the latest plans for housing in the UK, GB News presenter Ben Leo criticised the extensive targets of Labour and claimed they are “ripping young people off”.

Noting reports on the 20 “most likely areas” that Labour will target in their housing revolution, Ben claimed “they are coming for you!”

The areas, which include Cambridge, Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Leicester, Leeds, Oxford, Norwich and Reading, will be top of the Government’s plans for the turbocharge of new housing developments over the next five years.

In her first speech as Chancellor, Rachel Reeves claimed she wants to “get Britain building again” by overhauling planning permissions and setting a target of 1.5 million new homes.

Hitting out at the plans, Ben fumed: “If you live in any of those areas, be warned that Labour are coming for you.

“They’re going to build these ghastly, in my opinion, new build homes, new build estates which look horrible, soulless, and characterless. And they’re going to dig up vast swathes of the greenbelt land for it as well.”

In disagreement with Ben, cohost Bev Turner noted that the homes, which are suggested to be “sold as priority to first time buyers”, are needed and will “help the 25 year olds get on the housing ladder”.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Ben reaffirmed his anger at the surge in new build estates, telling GB News: “My point is, these developers are building these very flimsy, horrible houses. They’re completely soulless and they’re ripping you off.

“They are ripping your kids off – £300,000, £400,000, £500,000 houses that cost them a couple of quid to build. I think it’s a complete scam. In addition to that, they’re tearing up the beautiful countryside.”

Noting another issue with the King’s Speech, Ben highlighted the lack of immigration measures set out by Prime Minister Starmer.

Ben claimed: “One part of this discussion, which is omitted quite frequently, is immigration. If you’re letting in 300,000 people a year into the country, you wouldn’t need all these houses.

“So deal with immigration and then deal with houses, otherwise you’re just chasing your tail for years.”

Bev agreed with Ben, adding: “Completely. It’s just a circle all the time, isn’t it?”

Labour have put forward plans with a new Border Security, Asylum and Immigration Bill, which will allow police to use counter-terror powers to tackle gangs smuggling migrants into the UK.

Starmer has already scrapped the former Rwanda migrant plan, put in place by the Conservatives. In his first major press conference as Prime Minister, the Labour leader declared the plans were “not a deterrent” and were a “gimmick” plan.
