The Belfast Giants face a testing start to the 2024/25 Elite League season as they will open their campaign against the other three members of last season’s top-four in their opening three games.

Adam Keefe’s side, who are looking to dethrone last season’s Grand Slam-winning Sheffield Steelers, will face the defending champions in their second League game of the season at the Utilita Arena on Sunday September 29, a day after travelling to Planet Ice Altrincham to play last season’s surprise package the Manchester Storm.

Their first home League game will be a week later on Saturday October 5 when they welcome last season’s runners-up, the Cardiff Devils, to the SSE Arena.

The season concludes with a home/away double-header with the Nottingham Panthers on Saturday April 5 at the SSE Arena and Sunday April 6 at the Motorpoint Arena, with four of the Giants’ last five games in Belfast.

There are remarkably fewer double-headers for fans to enjoy than usual, the Giants having none on on the road and only two at home, against the Panthers on January 10/11 and Devils on February 21/22.

What is unsurprising, though, are the festive fixtures as the Giants make the trip to Glasgow to take on the Clan on Boxing Day before a rematch at the SSE Arena on Saturday 28, before a double-header against the Dundee Stars in Belfast on Monday 30 and then a rare afternoon matinee (2pm) at the Dundee Ice Arena on New Year’s Eve.

As per usual, the Giants’ season will begin with a run of five Challenge Cup games, with their first competitive fixture coming on Saturday September 7 at the Stars, the first of a Scottish road double-header as they travel to the Fife Flyers the following night.

Fans will have to wait until the following weekend, Saturday September 14, for their first competitive home match when the Stars make the trip across the Irish Sea, which will be their only game that weekend.

Unlike in previous seasons, due to the rejigged format, the Giants will not conclude their Cup group games until Saturday November 16 when the Flyers arrive in Belfast, by which stage they will be nine games into their League campaign.

The season will conclude with the Elite League’s annual Play-Off Finals Weekend at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena on April 19/20.
