The roadside that became Jessica St. Jules’s temporary resting place after she was slain is a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it kind of place.

Willows line one side of the stretch of road — more like a country laneway — while maples line the other. It is a quiet, peaceful place, the area around Nineteenth St. and Seventh Ave. in Lincoln, between Hamilton and St. Catharines.

Cops were called to the area on Saturday afternoon after receiving reports of a deceased woman.

She was 27-year-old St. Jules of Hamilton.

There are a thousand ifs and whys now for homicide detectives and her family to try to unravel. The answers may be unsatisfactory or just plain heartbreaking.

How does a young woman end up dead alongside a rural road in sparsely populated farm country? What wrong turn — if any — did her life take that set in motion the horrific events that led to her death?

“Jessica had her struggles, but was full of life and loved by her family and friends. May her legacy live on through the memories we have of her. RIP Jessica,” her brother Zachary wrote on a GoFundMe page established to pay for her funeral.

She grew up in Burlington, went to Gary Alan High School and left a light footprint on social media. Detectives said she had connections in Halton Region and Hamilton.

So far, cops are not saying how she died, how long she had been dead or why she was killed. From GoFundMe, it appears St. Jules’ family doesn’t have many answers at this time, either.

Detectives are asking anyone with information or anyone who may have had contact with St. Jules within the last week to contact them.

JUNK JUSTICE ALL-STAR NOW BIG LEAGUE

Taylor Harker has long been headed toward where he now finds himself.

The 25-year-old Toronto man had been charged with aggravated assault and other offences after a deadly “unprovoked” attack in downtown Toronto on Feb. 27. Gregory Lawrie, 50, of Toronto, died last week and Harker’s charges were boosted to manslaughter.

While none of the charges have been tested in court, again, we have questions. Following the February incident, there was allegedly also the matter of failure to comply with a release order, possession of a device while prohibited and breach of probation.

Almost any sociopath would be proud of the offences Harker has been accused of. In 2021, 55 Division featured the handsome devil on Wanted Wednesday. He was charged with several violent offences, although we do not know the outcome of those charges.

And yet someone thought it might be a good idea to spring him back onto the streets and ultimately to the time and place where he allegedly had his fateful “unprovoked” confrontation with Gregory Lawrie that would turn deadly.

COPS STILL HUNTING MOE, CURLY

Detectives are still looking for two of the Stooges, Moe and Curly. Police said that Larry (Daniel Orr, 39, of Toronto) was arrested last week and charged with three counts each of criminal harassment and mischief for leaving packages containing “food particles and gun rifle powder” at a city address.
